Find a Place to Serve

If learning the Bible nourishes our spiritual lives - and it does - then serving others is how we "exercise." And just like with our physical bodies, where feeding ourselves well and being active leads to good health, our Christian life is vibrant and meaningful when we balance "feeding" and "exercise".

Your spiritual gifts bring great strength and make a difference when you use them to support First Melissa. It takes an army of dedicated people to accomplish all the various tasks within our ministries. This page offers many opportunities to serve.  Check them out, then send a message to letting us know where you'd like to serve.

Serving the Church

Parking

Be the first to welcome those arriving at First Melissa. Bring your friendliest smile and help direct vehicle parking.

Greeters

Your smile will be the first thing people encounter as they come through the doors. You'll welcome and engage our guests, helping them find their way around as needed.

Hospitality

Help create an enjoyable and welcoming environment at gatherings of all kinds, from Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights to church-wide special events, fellowships, and services as part of the team that manages food and beverage service.

Connections

Operating most visibly in our central station for welcoming and information known as, 'The HUB,' our Connections ministry team helps people network with one another, stay abreast of happenings at First Melissa, and find places of service that keep us connected as we Reach Intentionally, Connect Authentically, Equip Continuously, and Live Passionately.

Prayer

At First Melissa, prayer is not something we do, it is part of who we are. Our prayer team believes that prayer changes lives, and we are grateful for the opportunity to unite with others in prayer, asking God for guidance, hope, and healing.

Worship Arts

Help usher people into God's presence to celebrate His greatness. We endeavor to use music and the arts to connect people to God while enhancing First Melissa's messages and initiatives.

NextGen Ministries

PRESCHOOL - Our preschool teams are committed to building children's faith as they engage kids with singing, dancing, games, crafts and Bible stories...all to help teach about God's unconditional love for us.

KIDS - Our kindergarten through 5th grade volunteers teach the Bible through age-appropriate activities, crafts and Bible studies at each grade level.

STUDENTS - Our student ministry leaders challenge teens in grades 6-12 to spend time daily in God's word, equipping them to maintain their Christian walk as they face the day-to-day challenges of this world.

Emergency Response Team

This team helps protect the safety and well-being of all individuals on our campus with a comprehensive and integrated safety and security program, in partnership with our local emergency responders.

Facilities and Campus Operations

Do you like to turn a wrench or swing a hammer? We need volunteers who can help with scheduled maintenance items and weekend campus operations, small construction projects, painting, landscaping/groundskeeping, and computer network maintenance.

Serving the Wider Community and the World

Disaster Relief

Join a team from First Melissa that participates with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief efforts responding to natural disasters and other emergencies around Texas and the U.S. We provide physical labor and logistical assistance, including cleanup, recovery, chaplaincy, relief team feeding, and childcare for natural disaster victims.

Local Impact Ministries

Our Impact teams share the love of Jesus through "community service" projects in and around our area.  Helping people in need through home repair, property maintenance and other physical needs is a great way to open conversation about their spiritual needs.  We want people to know that we care because Jesus cares.

Missions and Global Impact

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19 (ESV)

Known as "The Great Commission," the verse above describes our calling to reach the world with the good news of Jesus.  Our Missions and Global Impact teams help introduce people to Jesus all around the globe through short-term mission trips as well as supporting the ongoing missions efforts of several partners around the world.
